We're in the cute little house

What a wonderful season we are entering into. May Christ, the true spirit of the season fill your lives and your homes this year as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour. Amidst all the excitement, the sounds, the "busyness", the commercialism, the spending, the get-togethers, and all the other trappings let's pause to reflect on the reason for the celebration. Christmas is the birthday of a King!
COME ON IN - WE'RE SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE! IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME

All you need to make your holidays bright, and you won't have to fight the crowds at the mall!

We offer great items for decorating your home for Christmas as well as unique gift items.

Do you think this is all we do while Briley is visiting? You're right! We're old enough to realize that these moments pass all too quickly, and we can never reclaim them. We seize every opportunity.

Lovely picture of the season

We returned from the show tired and weary as usual. It was a great show. The weather was absolutely beautiful, and the crowds were the largest we have seen since we have been doing the show. We were quite surprised to look up Saturday morning to see Paula & Greg coming in. Paula just could not stand to miss the excitement so they decided to come since Butterbean was behaving. Luckily we did not have to birth a baby even though several of the dealers had offered their assistance just in case!
We were very glad to see them ---- of course because we love them ------ but also because they are a lot of help.

As of today we are still awaiting the arrival of our new granddaughter so the shop is open during our normal business hours.

Mark you calendars for Saturday November 14. We will be having our Christmas Open House and our second antique market on the grounds surrounding the shop. Several quality dealers will join us for this event. You don't want to miss it.

We have lots of new candles, melting tarts, and tart warmers. These make your home smell so warm and welcoming. They also make good Christmas gifts.

October "Happenings"

Welcome Fall! Rain has been the order of the day here in Ringgold. Thankfully we have not had any damage, but so many people around us have suffered property damage and even loss of life. Our hearts go out to all of those who have been adversely touched by the floods.

October is a very busy month for us. We begin the month with an antique show which takes us out of town for a few days. The store will be closed next week --- Sept 30 - Oct 2 while we are away. We plan to re-open on Wed Oct 7, but our "Miss Butterbean's" plans will dictate our lives for the next several weeks.

Butterbean is due to arrive on October 19 which is her Daddy's birthday. Of course babies have a way of arriving when they want to, not especially when the doctor says they will or when everyone else thinks it is convenient for them to come.

For the next few weeks I will be at Butterbean's bidding. I plan to go to South Carolina to be with our daughter when the baby comes, and I will stay as long as Paula needs me afterward. So the shop will be open when I am here, and it will be closed when I am out of town. Since I don't know exactly the schedule of events, I will be posting my whereabouts on e-mail and my blog. If you plan to vist the shop please check your e-mail or call before you make a trip. The store number is 706-965-7290 and my cell number is 423-596-0987.

I know that a store should always be open during regular hours, but since I am a "one woman show" I have no choice but to close when I cannot be here. I do thank you so much for your understanding, and I know that all of you who are my loyal customers and friends will understand.

I covet your prayers for Paula during this time. God has been so good to her - she has not had any serious problems and has thoroughly enjoyed the pregnancy. We are so thankful for this blessed answer to prayer, and we cannot wait to hold this little miracle in our arms. "Groovy Gran" needs your prayers, too. Susan - our caterer daughter - says that Paula and I are going to be 2 old women trying to take care of a new baby. She's pretty blunt, but there is a lot of truth to that. It's been a long time since I have cared for a newborn!

Thanks to each one of you - my customers and my friends!!!

Thought for today

THE GATHERING SEASON

As the first day of autumn approaches we begin the process of "gathering in" both physically and mentally. There is a change in the way the sunlight filters through the windows of our homes, and suddenly we notice that the air is a little cooler. The trees begin to take on just a hint of those beautiful colors that we look forward to this season. We realize that it is time to get our homes ready for this beautiful time of year.

We've decorated here at UNDER THE ARBOUR, and we're all ready to help you "cozy up" at your house. Whether you need some new treasures or just some decorating advice we are here to help. A new service that we now offer is HOME STYLING ----- we'll come to your home to help you with your decorating dilemas. Be sure to ask about this service.

Please join us on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 12 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. as we celebrate our FALL OPEN HOUSE. There will be special sales, new treasures, food, and lots of fun! Hope to see you.

WELCOME!!!!! Come on in.

A Joyful Day

What a joy it was for us to join together with family and friends to celebrate the coming of our new granddaughter. This is our daughter, Paula who was never supposed to have children. How thankful we are that our heavenly father does not concern himself with "worldly wisdom". He had a perfect plan for Paula, and He knew exactly when the time would be right for her to have a precious little baby.
If you have ever doubted that God answers prayer, we can tell you for sure that He absolutely does. His timing may not be ours, and His answer may not be exactly what we want to hear, but He never makes a mistake.
Our prayer is that this miracle in our family will be a blessing and encouragement to all who read our story. If you do not know the Lord as your saviour we invite you to trust Him now. It is very simple. The Bible says, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13

Paula our baby girl and soon to be Mommie

"BUTTERBEAN'S" MOMMIE

We have been blessed with a new greatgrandson. He is the son of our grandson, Jonathan and his wife, Kari. They live in Texas with their two beautiful little girls, Lilian and Livia. This new little one is not really little at all. He arrived weighing a hefty 9 lbs. 1 oz. How we wish they were closer to us so that we could hold him and love on him. Big sister Lily is doing a good job holding baby brother. She starts to first grade in a few days and is such a smart girl.
What a precious blessing our family is to us- each one of them!!!!!

The dog days of summer have arrived with a vengeance here in Ringgold, Georgia. It is just too hot to step outside unless it is absolutely necessary. My husband drives a school bus, and my heart goes out to him and the young people who ride his bus. He is not lucky enough to have an air conditioned bus so the heat and humidity are almost unbearable. What happened to the "good old days" of starting school after Labor Day?

Since it is too hot to be outside why not come by Under The Arbour for a little shopping fun. It's cool inside and we have lots of new items for you to see. We are always happy to have you drop by whether you just visit and browse or make a purchase. Our customers are our friends!

This is our daughter, Paula. If you follow my blog this is the daughter who is giving us a new granddaughter in October. She and her husband, Greg have waited a long time for this blessing. Doctors thought that she would never have children, but our Lord had other plans. What a precious miracle this is. We are so excited and thankful!
Paula & Greg always help us do this show, but they will be absent in October. Guess they have better things to do. We'll miss them!!!!

Vacation

ANNA MARIA ISLAND FLORIDA
A beautiful place to relax and to be reminded of the power of God who created this lovely world for us to enjoy. John, my sweetheart of 47 years, and I had a wonderful time just being together and doing nothing much except walking on the beach. Every time I glimpse the ocean I am reminded that the same God who created the mighty universe and keeps the oceans within their boundaries loves me and cares about me. He even knows my name! Of course He knows your name, too, and He also cares about you. What a precious truth to hold onto during these turbulent times. As John and I celebrated our 47th anniversary we were reminded of the Lord's goodness to us through the years. A marriage that should not have lasted- I was only 16 and John was 18 - is still solid thanks to God's amazing grace. We have 2 precious daughters, 3 lovely grandchildren, 3 darling great grandchildren, 1 new granddaughter due in October, and 1 new great grandson due in August. So as you can see we have much to be thankful for, and we truly are thankful!

Antique Market News

The first annual antique market at Under The Arbour has come and gone. We had a wonderful time. The gals who came to sell were great, the merchandise they brought was the best, the food was out of this world, the laughter made us all happy, and the friendships formed will be with us forever.

We certainly proved that laughter is the best medicine. The day started out early with one of us locking ourselves out of our truck before we unloaded, then one of us got our truck stuck and we had to enlist the help of some of our customers to pull us out, one of us turned over a table and broke some of our glassware, one of us had to have a new water pump put on our truck, we all sweated a lot, ate a lot, and finally as we were packing up one of us FELL INTO a wooden bucket that we were using for a ladder to put items into our truck! Do we sound like professional antique dealers, or what?

So --------- if you missed the market you certainly missed a day of fun. You missed some wonderful antique treasures and some fabulous bargains too. Hopefully you can join us next time.

We have some exciting garden goodies at the shop right now. Lots of unique treasures to add spice to your outdoor spaces ------- birdhouses, planters, chicken nesting boxes, plant stands, etc. Hope you can come by before they all get gone.

Hopefully I will have my camera back within a couple of weeks so that I can share pictures with you. We are going to visit our daughter and son-in-law in South Carolina (where my camera is) and maybe I won't forget to bring it home. This is Paula and Greg, the SPECIAL ONES who are giving us a new baby granddaughter in the fall.

Antique Market

We survived the Cotton Pickin Fair, and I had lots of pictures to share. But ------- my camera went to South Carolina with my daughter and son-in-law who always help us do the show. So you will see the pictures someday.

UNDER THE ARBOUR is hosting an Antique Market this Saturday June 6 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on the grounds surrounding the shop. We're doing this in conjunction with the Dixie Highway Yard Sale. Dixie Hwy is Hwy 41 which runs through downtown Ringgold. The sale stretches from Ringgold to Marietta. Since the shop is only 1 block off Hwy 41 you can shop the yard sale and then come by to see what we have to offer.

There will be several quality dealers offering a diverse assortment of antiques, primitives, cottage, garden, glassware, shabby treasures, plants, etc. Cranberry Cupboard Catering will be serving food all day. She does fabulous food. She ought to- she is my daughter, and I taught her everything she knows. There will be chocolate cake that is absolutely "to die for". She will offer solid food, too but you can where my interest lies!

Hope you can join us for a fun day, and I'm sure you can pick up some bargains. We'll look forward to seeing old friends and meeting some of you for the first time.

DIRECTIONS: Exit #348 off I 75 North on Hwy 51 Turn right onto Lafayette St. at traffic light - beside Kentucky Fried Chicken Travel .08 mi on Lafayette St. Turn left onto Maple St. - beside Ringgold Power Sports Shop is on the left - just behind Ringgold Power Sports

From hwy 41 turn right on Maple St. Shop will be on right. Watch for signs
This week's thought:

"There are two times when a man doesn't understand a woman- before marriage and after marriage."

Early spring in our little corner of North Georgia is a beautiful time. God's handiwork is evident all around. This is a very old plum tree on our property and is a breathtaking sight with its lovely white flowers. Just behind it is a crabapple tree which has pink blooms, but the blooms had not quite opened on the day that I took this picture.

I am lucky to have such good help at the shop. This is baby Dane along with his Grandpa (my husband,John) working for me. Notice that Dane has his pencil behind his ear ready to tally sales. Count your change carefully girls!

Dane loves to help Gran arrange and display new treasures. He says to tell you that the little chairs are very comfortable and hold up a young man quite securely.

Cute Honda scooter. Ride to work!!

Old wood tool box painted green. So pretty on your table with flowers.
